Evaluation

Evaluation

I used presentations in many ways to present work more differently and effectively. When we went to the zoo trip I took photos of animals which then I used in the zoo trip page because it would show the different types of African animals available which could help then generate ideas of African animal side tables. I also used a camera to have photos of the process of making the table, I used these images in the evaluation because it would show what I did and how I made the table. I used the internet to research African animals, side tables and different ideas of how to make the table and the possible packaging that could be used.

In computer class I produced different pieces of work which includes instructions on how to assemble the table, design packaging ideas, final idea of packaging and a research of packaging designs. We did instructions on how to assemble the table because it would show the user how to assemble the table and if you look at all packaging table items they all come with assembling details. I also produced a research page on packaging because it would help me see what types of packaging can be used for my side table. We also produced ideas of packaging so that it would help me to think of what my final idea would look like. Then we produced a final idea page of packaging showing what he packaging of the table is going to look like and parts of the table I tried to draw on Photoshop programme.

I believe that using computers has made my work harder to complete as I lack skills in my Photoshop and I’m not experienced with using Photoshop. However it has also made my work easier to complete because it helped me edit photos using the pen tool. First we researched side tables and their traditional functions in groups because it would help us see side tables are and what they are used for. Then I had to research packaging designs and instructions to help us see what different types of packaging are available and why there are instructions are on the packaging and what they indicate, however I put it at towards the end of my sketchbook. I did the packaging designs by researching on the internet of different packaging and what they are made out of. Then we cropped images of animals that I obtained from the internet and looked the animal features closer. These features were zoomed into and drawn by looking carefully at the animal’s details; I did this of a lion and a zebra. Then I created a storyboard of the zebra movement, which means I looked at how the animal runs, jumps and the way it moves parts of its legs. I created this storyboard by looking at images of the zebra from the internet. After that, I made different maquette of the tables out of cardboard to show different ideas of tables, what possible errors could occur and what the table is going to look like. After making the maquette, I made initial ideas of different table designs using drawing it by hand in my sketchbook.  Then I developed my ideas further, were I choose one idea from the initial design and developed it. Afterwards I produced instructions on how to assemble the table for the user by Photoshop to help the user with how to assemble the table when needed. After that, I developed the designs, with producing one design to be used on the packaging of my flat pack side table. Next, I did a technical specification by drawing different angles of the table elevation, which included information about the table such as the material, it is made out from. Finally, I made an evaluation of the whole project that included weaknesses, strengths and the processes of making the table.

I believe that the most successful piece of work was the table because it looks really good with smooth finished edges, I think I made the table really successfully because I have used machines I have never used before which was quite challenging for me. In addition, the cropped image was successful because I like the way I drew the successful images that are really detailed and clear. I believe that the only thing that was not successful was the packaging ideas because I could of generated more ideas as I believe I didn’t have enough and I could of printed my work again as the printer was out of colour. In the future, I think I would like to learn more about making maquettes as I found it very interesting and I enjoyed making them.
